The Emilykind are now accepting book recommendations!!
List of current favorite authors includes:
Patricia Briggs Carrie Vaughn Robin Mckinnley Laurel K Hamilton Anne Bishop Tamora Pierce Terri Windling Ellen Datlow
You'll note the trend focusing around strong female characters, and a substantial amount of urban fantasy to which I have not entirely reconciled myself.
Please respond soonish rather than laterish as there will be less boredom on my part that way. :-P |

| Snow! |
[Dec. 19th, 2008|03:00 pm] |
Holy snow!!! We have a severe winter storm warning through tomorrow night. Ugh. I am considering myself snow bound until further notice, as the near FOOT of snow I have so far has yet to be ploughed off the road, and the bunny rabbit car of doom does not like snow, precious, no we do not.
Just shoveled the walks, didn't bother with the driveway. Let the cats see what snow is and why they don't get to go outside.
And it just keeps coming down....
Edit: just got the notification that the U of U campus is shut down. |

Ok, I'm jumping off the bridge with the rest of y'all...
If you saw me in the back of a police car, what would you think I was there for?
Answer me, then post this in your own journal (or, you know, don’t) to see how many different crimes you get accused of committing. |

There is a protest tonight at temple square over the LDS church's involvement in Prop 8 in California. Gonna see if I can get down for that. |

This morning I dragged my carcass out of bed like the primordial ooze from whence we came.
I even managed to drag it down the street to the Senior Center to vote despite lack of clean undergarmets and a complete lack of supplies (except for frozen vegetables, I have lots of those).
Anyway. Did the vote thing, even managed to outsmart the machine to make it happen. I mean, really people, I have two degrees, why do they have to make this process more complex every year? I haven't even been voting for very long and remember the machines with the punch cards. *grumble*

Option the first: Dictatorship with me in charge.
Option the second: Political system with 5 distinct politcal parties that represent a spectrum of ideas and policies. Then we can actually learn how to discuss, compromise, and disagree.

In other news, my helm is nearly finished. I checked to see what the flower wreath looked like on it. :-) The person who made the helm is going to be mortified.

| | curious | ] | Had to look up "steampunk" as I hadn't come across the term before. Yes, I am culturally challenged, thank you. But the picture that was with the wikipedia entry was this:

As steampunk is apparently a victorian or western setting in combination with technology that would not have existed at that time, I thought this was cool looking. The combination of sleek old fashiondy computer and type writer keys and oil lamp was nice.
Wanted to share.

| Autumn |
[Sep. 28th, 2008|06:32 pm] |
No question about it. Autumn is in the air, and the skies.
You can tell because it gets dark earlier.
*nods sagely*
I always have trouble this time of year. Move a bit slower, feel a bit colder. It is probably just a mental thing, I find myself psychologically shivering at the spectre whose wings I feel beating the non-existent breeze brushing my lips with cool kisses. Autumn is the lover to whom I return each year. Even if I eventually move somewhere that lacks four distinct seasons (which would be a relief in most ways), I'm afraid I'll still feel this insubstantial brush of winged snowflakes on thechange of the winds.
Part of me sleeps through the cold each year, leaving the rest of me to somehow stumble through until Spring. |
